Small Town Start

Hey there! Welcome to my blog, where you can probably tell that I am bit of a superhero nerd from the title. But, every hero has an origin story that sent them down the path to becoming super. I want to tell you about my beginnings and where I am currently along this journey to being super.

My name is Scott Councilman (if you didn’t know that already). I grew up in a one-light (caution light) town in North Carolina. Growing up I played sports, particularly baseball and wrestling. I remember playing my first year in live pitching in our town’s recreational baseball league and our team finished dead last, in fact, I don’t think we won a single game that season. I remember the feeling of defeat and I never wanting to feel that way again.

Have you ever felt this way about an event in your life? I’m sure we all have at some point. Instead of dwelling in on the feeling of defeat, I asked myself, what am I going to do about it? My goal was to not finish last the next season. I worked on my game with my dad and uncle in the off season to be better equipped for the next year, that included repetitive fielding drills, conditioning, hitting drills and situational awareness. That following season we finished 5th or 6th out of 10 teams.

Now, I know that’s not being 1st or even being in the top 3, but I want to illustrate that progress was made by my mentality to control what I can, which is myself,  and taking little actions or decisions daily in the off-season to improve myself, which in turn benefits the team.

Create Your Long-Term Goals

I want to challenge you to start changing your mentality, write out long term goals and dreams (1-5 years), then I want you to write monthly and weekly goals that will help you attain the long term goal you just set for yourself. What small decision or action will it take on daily basis that will get you where you want to be or achieve in the next 1-5 years? Is it reading a book for 15-30 minutes a day? What about getting up early to run or workout? Or learning from individuals who already have what you want to achieve? Let’s get started on your path to becoming super!
